LaneParty — Terms of Service (DRAFT)
DRAFT — Requires attorney review before publication
Last updated: 2026-04-19
DISCLAIMER
I am not a lawyer. This document is a draft prepared by a non-attorney AI system to capture the functional and legal requirements of the LaneParty product. This document must be reviewed and finalized by a qualified attorney licensed in Idaho before publication. Every section marked [ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED] requires particular scrutiny and may require rewording for legal adequacy and enforceability.
1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
By accessing or using LaneParty (the "Service"), whether through the website at laneparty.com, the mobile app at laneparty.app, or any related platforms, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.
LaneParty is operated by MaxtDesign ("we," "us," "our," or "Company"). We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated at least 30 days in advance, and your continued use of the Service after the effective date of such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ACCOUNT CREATION
2.1 Age Requirements
To create and maintain your own account on LaneParty, you must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 13, you may participate in the Service only through a managed profile created and controlled by a parent or legal guardian.
2.2 Parent-Managed Profiles for Users Under 13
Parents or legal guardians may create managed profiles for children under the age of 13. When you create a managed profile, you are responsible for all activity on that profile and agree to supervise the child's use of the Service. You represent and warrant that you have the legal authority to create and manage such a profile.
Children using managed profiles may not create their own accounts or have independent access to the Service outside of the managed profile interface. Managed profiles have limited functionality and cannot independently access certain features (such as direct messaging or profile customization) until the profile is claimed.
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: Compliance with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) for users under 13, state-specific parental consent requirements, and managed profile legal frameworks.]
2.3 Profile Claim and Release
Parents may release a managed profile to the child via a claim token once the child reaches an age the parent deems appropriate. The child then gains full account control. This action is irreversible. The parent retains no further authority over the account once the claim is accepted. We recommend parents discuss this release with their children and ensure the child understands account responsibilities before releasing the profile.
2.4 Account Registration
When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and any account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account. You are liable for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorized it.
3. SERVICE DESCRIPTION AND FEATURES
3.1 Free Tier
The free tier of LaneParty allows you to track bowling scores locally on your device with no account required. Score data is stored on your device only and is not synced across devices or backed up to LaneParty servers.
3.2 Free Account Tier
Creating a free account enables additional features: score syncing across devices, group management (create and invite bowlers to groups), email communication, and access to standard statistics and leaderboards.
3.3 Pro Tier
The Pro tier is available via subscription at $5–7 USD per month (pricing subject to change with 30 days' notice). Pro subscription includes: AI-powered photo score import (via Claude Vision API), advanced statistics and analysis, animated trading cards, and private tournament hosting. Pro features are limited to users 18 and older.
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: Stripe payment terms, billing disclosures, subscription cancellation requirements, and compliance with state-specific digital goods sales tax.]
3.4 AI Features (Pro Tier, 18+)
Users under 18 cannot access AI Portrait generation or use AI-powered photo avatars due to privacy and consent considerations. This applies to all users, regardless of parental consent or managed profile status.
Photo score import processes scoresheet photos through Claude Vision (a third-party AI service). Photos are sent to Claude for analysis, then discarded after generation of score data. We do not retain the original photos.
AI Portrait generation takes a selfie photo, sends it to our AI system for processing, then discards the original photo. The generated portrait is retained in your account for display and use.
4. USER DATA AND OWNERSHIP
4.1 Ownership of Score Data
You own all score data you create or input into LaneParty. LaneParty retains a worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and analyze your anonymized score data to improve the Service, conduct statistical research, and generate aggregated bowling insights.
4.2 Immutability and Audit Trail
Score data is immutable after a session is closed. Once a bowling session is marked complete, score entries cannot be edited or deleted by the user. This ensures the integrity of recorded scores and prevents retroactive manipulation of historical data.
During live scoring events, venue managers have the ability to make corrections to scores in real time (before session closure) to address errors. All such corrections are recorded in an audit trail with timestamps and the venue manager's identifier, allowing users and LaneParty administrators to review the correction history.
4.3 Data Retention and Account Deletion
If you request deletion of your account, we will delete all personally identifiable information associated with your account within 30 days. Anonymized score data may be retained for statistical and research purposes. Deleted account data cannot be recovered.
5. ANTI-CHEAT AND TRUST SYSTEM
5.1 Trust Tiers
LaneParty uses a trust tier system to assess the credibility of scores:
- Unverified: New users with no verification.
- Basic: Email verified.
- Location Verified: Device location validated during scoring sessions.
- Photo Verified: AI photo scoresheet verification completed.
- Venue Synced: Scores synced with venue POS or scoring system.
- Venue Verified: Official venue confirmation of score accuracy.
Higher trust tiers earn more weight in leaderboards, statistics, and competition rankings.
5.2 Anti-Cheat Enforcement Methods
We employ multiple methods to detect and prevent cheating, including mathematical validation (score impossibilities, statistically improbable patterns), timestamp integrity checks, location verification, statistical flagging of outlier performances, and community reporting from other users.
5.3 Soft Suspensions
Users flagged for suspicious activity may receive a soft suspension, during which their scores are temporarily removed from leaderboards and competitions. Soft suspensions are reversible and are lifted if the user resolves the flagged behavior or provides evidence that explains the anomaly.
5.4 Permanent Bans
Permanent bans from the Service are issued only after human review and confirmation by a LaneParty administrator. Bans are reserved for repeat violations, egregious cheating, or conduct that violates our community standards. Permanently banned users lose all access to the Service and cannot create new accounts.
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: Due process requirements for suspension and permanent bans, notice requirements, appeal procedures, and liability for wrongful termination/suspension.]
6. COMPETITIONS AND CHALLENGES
6.1 In-App Competitions
LaneParty offers weekly player-versus-player challenges and seasonal competitions. Participation is entirely voluntary. Competition rewards are limited to in-app rewards only: experience points (XP), achievement badges, digital trading cards, and visual recognition on leaderboards.
6.2 Prohibited Prize Structures
LaneParty does not administer, award, or facilitate cash prizes, physical merchandise, sweepstakes, or gambling of any kind in connection with competitions. Users may not wager money or goods on competition outcomes within the Service.
6.3 Venue-Administered Prizes
Venues may offer their own prizes or promotions to users who participate in venue-hosted tournaments. LaneParty does not administer these venue prizes. Venues are independently responsible for compliance with local gambling, sweepstakes, and promotional laws. LaneParty's venue marketing platform allows venues to announce promotions, but LaneParty does not endorse, administer, or enforce venue prize terms.
7. TRADING CARDS
7.1 Digital Collectibles
LaneParty offers digital trading cards tied to user achievements, milestones, and special events. Cards are digital collectibles with assigned print runs, serial numbers, and rarity tiers. Cards have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash, prizes, or physical goods.
7.2 Card Ownership and Transfer
Users own the digital cards in their collection. Most cards may be traded with other users. Some cards are designated as "soulbound," meaning they cannot be transferred and remain permanently with the original owner. Soulbound status is noted on the card details.
7.3 LaneParty Rights to Modify Card System
LaneParty retains the right to modify, retire, or alter the trading card system, including print runs, rarity, special effects, or availability of cards. LaneParty does not guarantee perpetual availability or unchanged characteristics of any card. We will provide reasonable notice of significant changes.
7.4 No Monetary Value
Cards are collectibles for in-app recognition and enjoyment only. They have no monetary value. LaneParty will not facilitate secondary sales, real-money trading, or valuation of cards. Any trading occurs within the LaneParty platform only.
8. VENUE MARKETING PLATFORM
8.1 Venue Promotions
Venues may use the LaneParty Venue Marketing Platform to send promotions to users who have favorited or interacted with their venue. Each venue is limited to a maximum of two promotional messages per week to any individual user.
8.2 Promotion Approval
LaneParty reviews all venue promotions for format compliance, brand guideline adherence, and policy violations (such as prohibited content or misleading claims). Our review is limited to compliance with these technical and policy standards. Approval of a promotion does not constitute endorsement of the venue, its services, or its offers.
8.3 User Controls
Users may mute venues to stop receiving promotions from them. Users may also unsubscribe from all venue promotions while remaining able to use other LaneParty features. Venues may not contact users through any channel other than the LaneParty Venue Marketing Platform.
9. THIRD-PARTY INTEGRATIONS AND APIs
9.1 External Services
LaneParty uses third-party services, including but not limited to Stripe (payment processing), Claude Vision (AI image analysis), and potentially venue POS systems. Your use of the Service is also governed by the privacy policies and terms of these third-party providers. We are not responsible for third-party service outages, data practices, or changes to their terms.
9.2 QR Codes and Location Scanning
LaneParty uses QR codes for profile sharing, session joining, and venue check-in. Scanning a QR code indicates your consent to the associated action (joining a session, checking in to a venue, viewing a profile). Scanning may trigger location data collection for anti-cheat verification. By scanning a QR code, you consent to this data collection as described in our Privacy Policy.
10. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS AND EMAIL COMMUNICATION
10.1 Opt-In Communication
Push notifications and email communications from LaneParty are opt-in. You may opt into or out of notifications at any time through your account settings. Venue promotions, competition invitations, and message notifications are all manageable through your preferences.
10.2 Unsubscribe
You may unsubscribe from any category of communication at any time by adjusting your notification settings or clicking the unsubscribe link in any email. Unsubscribing will not affect your ability to use the core Service.
10.3 Transactional Messages
Certain transactional messages (such as account security alerts, password resets, or payment confirmations) are not optional and cannot be unsubscribed from, as they are necessary to maintain account security and service functionality.
11. USER CONDUCT AND COMMUNITY STANDARDS
11.1 Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to use the Service to:
Harass, threaten, or abuse other users, including through the rivalry/competition system.
Create usernames or profiles with hateful, sexually explicit, or abusive content.
Engage in fraud, cheating, or manipulation of scores or competitions.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data.
Post content that violates intellectual property rights, including copyrighted images or music.
Spam, phish, or attempt to compromise the security of the Service.
Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
11.2 Rivalry System Protections
The rivalry and competition features include rate limiting to prevent harassment. Users may block other users and decline rivalry invitations without notification. Users may also flag abusive behavior through our community reporting system.
11.3 Enforcement
We may, at our discretion and without prior notice, remove content, suspend accounts, or terminate service for violations of these terms or community standards. Users do not have a right to continued access if they violate these policies.
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: Free speech limitations, notice and appeal procedures, content moderation liability under relevant state and federal laws.]
12. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
12.1 LaneParty Owns the Platform
All rights, title, and interest in the LaneParty Service, including its design, software, features, content, and trademarks, are owned by MaxtDesign or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works of the Service without explicit written permission.
12.2 User-Generated Content License
When you upload, create, or submit content to LaneParty (such as profile avatars, custom card designs, photos, or descriptions), you grant LaneParty a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable license to use, display, reproduce, and modify that content within the Service and for promotional purposes. You retain ownership of your content but grant us broad rights to use it.
12.3 Third-Party Content
LaneParty may display content from third parties, including venue information, leaderboards, and user profiles. Such content is used with permission or under fair use principles. You are responsible for respecting third-party intellectual property rights when using the Service.
13. DISCLAIMERS AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY
13.1 Recreational Use Only
LaneParty is a recreational bowling score tracking application. Scores recorded in LaneParty are not official or regulated bowling records unless explicitly verified by an official venue using the Venue Verified trust tier. LaneParty is not affiliated with the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), or any official bowling organization unless specifically stated.
13.2 As-Is Service
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or harmful code. We disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
13.3 Limitation of Liability
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: This section requires careful attention to state law caps on liability. Idaho may have specific limitations or requirements.]
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall LaneParty, its founders, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service, including loss of data, lost profits, or reputational harm. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you have paid to LaneParty in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 USD if you have not made any payments.
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on liability for personal injury or gross negligence. In such jurisdictions, we limit liability to the maximum extent permitted by law.
13.4 Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless LaneParty and its founders, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including attorney's fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
14. AFFILIATION DISCLAIMERS
LaneParty is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially recognized by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), or any bowling venue unless explicitly stated in writing. We do not represent ourselves as an official bowling scoring system. Scores recorded in LaneParty are for recreational tracking only and do not constitute official USBC or PBA records.
15. PRIVACY AND DATA PRACTICES
Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy (linked from laneparty.com and laneparty.app). The Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your data. By using the Service, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy.
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: Ensure the Privacy Policy is drafted in parallel with these Terms and complies with GDPR (if serving EU users), CCPA/CPRA (California), and other applicable data protection laws. Cross-reference and ensure consistency between the two documents.]
16. PAYMENT AND BILLING
16.1 Pro Subscription
Pro tier subscriptions are billed monthly at the rate selected during signup ($5–7 USD per month, subject to change with 30 days' notice). Billing occurs on the same date each month unless you cancel your subscription.
16.2 Stripe Payment Processing
All payments are processed through Stripe, a third-party payment processor. By subscribing, you consent to Stripe's collection and use of payment information. Stripe is responsible for the security of your payment data, not LaneParty.
16.3 Refunds and Cancellation
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. We do not offer refunds for partial months. If you cancel mid-cycle, you retain access to Pro features until the end of that billing period.
16.4 Billing Disputes
If you believe you have been billed in error, contact us within 30 days of the charge. We will investigate and process refunds or credits as appropriate.
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: Stripe terms of service integration, refund policy compliance with state law, subscription cancellation requirements under the Restore Online Shoppers Confidence Act (ROSCA), and credit card network rules.]
17. TERMINATION OF SERVICE
17.1 User-Initiated Termination
You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Account deletion is permanent. All personally identifiable information is deleted within 30 days. You will lose access to all synced data, groups, and purchased Pro features.
17.2 LaneParty-Initiated Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, engage in cheating or abuse, or pose a security risk to the Service or other users. Termination may result in permanent deletion of your account and data.
17.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ends. You remain liable for any outstanding charges or violations. Sections 12 (Intellectual Property), 13 (Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability), 14 (Affiliation Disclaimers), and 19 (Governing Law and Dispute Resolution) survive termination.
18. MODIFICATIONS TO THE SERVICE
We may modify, update, or discontinue features of the Service at any time without notice. We may introduce new features, change pricing, or retire old features. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of changes. For material changes that negatively affect your use, we will provide 30 days' notice.
19. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION
[ATTORNEY REVIEW NEEDED: This section requires careful attention to Idaho law, venue selection, and enforceability. Consider whether mandatory arbitration, jury waiver, or class action waivers are appropriate for this product and compliant with Idaho law.]
19.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Idaho, without regard to its conflicts of law principles. The application of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is excluded.
19.2 Dispute Resolution
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved exclusively through binding arbitration administered by a mutually agreed-upon arbitrator in Boise, Idaho. You agree to waive any right to trial by jury and any right to participate in a class action lawsuit. Each party bears its own costs and attorney's fees unless the arbitrator determines otherwise.
19.3 Exceptions
Notwithstanding the arbitration requirement, either party may seek injunctive relief in court for violations of intellectual property rights, confidentiality obligations, or other breaches that cause irreparable harm.
19.4 Informal Resolution
Before initiating arbitration, the parties agree to attempt informal resolution by exchanging written communication describing the dispute. If informal resolution fails, either party may initiate arbitration.
20. GENERAL PROVISIONS
20.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and LaneParty regarding your use of the Service and supersede all prior negotiations, understandings, and agreements.
20.2 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be severed, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
20.3 Waiver
No waiver of any provision of these Terms is effective unless in writing and signed by an authorized representative of LaneParty. The failure to enforce any right does not constitute a waiver of that right.
20.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account to any third party without written consent from LaneParty. LaneParty may assign these Terms to any successor or affiliate without notice.
20.5 Contact Information
If you have questions about these Terms or the Service, contact us at: radrabbitco@gmail.com
